Keeping your configurator fast and responsive is important for several reasons:
- Improves user experience
- Reduces waiting time for users
- Minimizes backend compute usage
A good first step toward optimization is to understand how your configurator performs. You can measure performance using the Google Chrome Developer Tools by following these steps:
- Open your configurator in Google Chrome.
- Press F12 to open the Developer Tools.
- Navigate to the Network tab - this displays all network calls the app makes to the Modelup backend.
- Each line labeled compute represents a call to the compute backend.
To filter and focus only on compute calls:
- Click the Fetch/XHR filter button.
- Type compute in the filter input field.
Now, pay attention to the following columns:
- Time: Shows how long each computation takes. In the example below, most calls complete in about 100 ms.
- Size: Indicates the size of the 3D model generated from Grasshopper. Smaller is better; in the example below, the model size is around 30 KB.
As general guidelines:
